Mowad Contact dermatitis is a stimulating field that impacts people of all races, genders, and ages. The study and diagnosis of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD) are filled with challenges that require knowledge, persistence, attention to detail, and curious inquiry. Each day we encounter hundreds of chemicals in the dozens of personal care products we contact. We are further exposed to numerous chemicals at work and in our avocations. Many of these chemicals have the potential to become allergens and cause chronic dermatitis. Considering the diagnosis of ACD is essential when evaluating patients with chronic dermatitis. Patch testing may be the step needed to identify the causative allergens, which may assist in resolution of the dermatitis.
